With the implementation of the Common Core State Standards comes a higher bar of expectations for the knowledge, skills, and practices that teachers bring to the classroom. Linked Learning also requires an expanded set of skills for practitioners. As a result, schools and districts are struggling to build and increase the capacity of teachers to carry out the instructional shifts that are required in the new standards. The questions then become, how do schools and districts build the skills and competencies that are required of teachers who teach in Linked Learning pathways, and how can badges be used to help teachers chart their own path towards continuous improvement? Badges and micro-credentials present an innovative way to customize and personalize learning for teachers so that they can identify and develop the competencies and skills that are being asked of them within Linked Learning pathways.
